My 6 year old has used some racist language about some local kids, how do I best punish him? |
We don't have a lot of African-American kids in our hood, and they are not nice kids, they swear like sailors (one is 5) they take bikes that don't belong to them, they stole my son's scooter, they break windows with rocks. I know that they're not bad just because of their skin color, but that's all he's been exposed to from their race, and he's developing bigotry on his own, even to say that they look like dirty butts all over their bodies. I don't condone this, nor did he hear it from me, but half of me wants to let him learn on his own and make his own judgements about who they are: bad little kids. I wish I could find some good black kids for him to play with. The mother of those kids is white, and she brought my son and her daughter to my front door complaining about his actions, and that if I don't stop it her older son will (threat). I told her that her kids are the basis for most of the drama around here, and she told me, "No wonder he's a racist, you are too." Don't do any thing. tell the mothor to stick to her own kind. If you see the kids beat them. Make him watch roots. i would do nothing.. let your son develop his own opinions.. don't do what society tells you that you should do.. they gear commercials to stupid people for a reason.. let your son use his mind and see for himself.. maybe let him watch cops.. set hims strait right away about the racist remarks. It's one thing for the kids to be bad kids but it has nothing to do with their skin color. Explain to him that it's not their skin color that's making them act badly, it's poor parenting... then explain other examples of kids behaving badly where the kid is white, mexican, or whatever other race because kids of all races behave badly when left to their own devices without any parental supervision.... *sigh* Just tell your kids not to call anyone names, and that bad kids come from all walks of life, and that they are not to play with children that behave badly. Only punish them if your children continue to use racist names. BTW, just because you think her kids are brats dosen't mean you're a racist, it sounds like they are brats. Well your child has heard someone making racist remarks in order to repeat them. Finding out who your child has heard make these remarks is the first thing you need to do. You also need to sit down and explain to him why such language is not acceptable. If this is the first time it's happened I would let it go with a strong lecture. If it happens again than go with a more severe punishment: no TV/games, time out, spanking, . . . tell him black people are okay no matter how much they bully him and steal his stuff. |
