I rent an apartment, and the outside of the building was recently painted?

I have a little "patio" outside my back door, where I keep my kids bikes and trash can and such. Well, the painters got paint all over my kids bikes. They're only small little kids bikes, $35 for one and $20 for the other. But should I complain to someone about the paint? Shouldn't they have asked me to move any of my stuff that was gonna get paint on it? Should they have to pay for ruining these bikes, or was it my responsibility?
I just bought them on christmas, so they were fairly new...

A good painter would have asked you to move them, moved them himself or covered them with a drop cloth.
Your land lord is very cheap evidently.
Good Luck
I would certainly bring this up to the property management, but I would not mention the amount you paid for them.
They should want to know, especially if this is a trend, where a lot of residents had the same problems.
talk to the mgr of your building...yes they should have told you to move them..
In this case, I would say that damage to your property is the responsibility of the owners of the complex, as their operations caused the damage to the bikes. The owners will then probably try to recover their loss from the painters. You should absolutely inform the apartment manager of the damage to your property.
talk to management. more than likely if they gave u 24 hour notice about the premisise being painted then they have covered their end of giving you proper notification. you should have moved th ebikes if u were well informed in ample time. if they did it that mornin and u got no notification then yes you should seek the company to reiumburse you. this is our building policy but im sure your building has its own. speak to the building manager and alert him of the situation they can better advise.
Are you supposed to keep stuff on your patio? In the last couple of apartments I've lived in, you couldn't store anything on the patio except an appropriate table and chairs. If that's the case for you, then they don't owe you anything; although it was still rude for them not to give a notice.
If that's not the case, then definitely call them and explain the situation. Say you feel you should be reimbursed for the damage to your property. If they ignore you or argue, write a letter to the person above them, and include pictures. Say you've been a good tenant and had no complaints so far, but that this is out of line. Hopefully they will work to keep their tennants happy!
Was there an advance notice about painting being done on such and such day? It there was a notice, you should have moved or covered your things. If there was no notice, which is hard to believe, complain to the management.
