Why does my neck hurt after bike riding? |
I'm a 49 yr old women trying to get more excercise and just started riding for the first time since I was a kid. I've tried to adjust the handlebars up but seem to have hit the max. And I hate to lower the seat any as it seems to be just right. I'm having a hard time motivating myself to ride and this neck pain makes a pretty good excuse to stay on the couch, ha! Any ideas? raise your handelbars or lower your seat. it does seem like the handlebars are too low...if you're leaning down and looking forward that puts strain on the neck You are on the right track. Your handlebars are set too low. That is the popular way now because it reduces wind drag. Go to a bike shop and have them put in a longer handlebar center post. PS. Get a pair of cool sunglasses or a helmet with the little rear-view mirrors attached. They are too convenient, and will enable you to see behind you without straining your neck. If not, the get some rear view mirrors to mount on the bike. Get a helmet in any case. Take care! ;-D have fun and don't give up riding. Just be careful! http://store.thebackcountry.net/cart/hom... Perhaps try to change your seat or adjust it. Try to maintain the natural curve in your neck spinal area. Your head should sit directly centre & in line with your shoulders. Maybe when you are riding you are holding a forward head posture. PTS |
