Any little hidden treasures in Golden Gate Park? |
We're going tomorrow with the kids and bikes. I know there's a park somewhere and even buffalo... any other little fun spots we shouldn't miss??? In Golden Gate Park: As others have mentioned, Stow Lake-my daughter and I brought bread to feed the ducks yesterday-pedal boat is more fun than the row boats...just a few hundred yards east is the redesigned De Young Museum...and alittle bit further east on JFK drive is the recently remodeled Conservatory of Flowers which is filled with exotic trees and plants and has a room with a large pond covered with waterlilies...hidden treasure #1: cross the street (or take the undeground tunnel that starts from the flower dell in front of the Conservatory) to the south side and head on the path west, on your left is a trail that is covered by large ferns on both sides, follow it and you will find an isolated peaceful pond filled with ducks. Hidden Treasure #2 The Filbert Street Steps (see link). Source(s): http://www.conservatoryofflowers.org/his... http://www.sisterbetty.org/stairways/fil... they are all hearsay! i already got the treasures. Children's Park in GGP (near the bocci field) has the cement slides. Also Seward St. has cement slides. Use cardboard to go down them - faster and easier. There are some waterfalls too - but not sure how flowing it is. Looking at the park from the ocean (Great Highway), you will see two windmills. Start at the windmill on your left and head in the direction of the one on your right. From there, follow the path marked on signs placed throughout the park until you find the Buffalo Paddock. You can rent archery equipment and shoot at the field just north of the golf course. Rent a paddleboat at Stowe Lake. My favorite is the Arboretum, but it might not be as fun for the kids. stow lake, childrens playground (it's just been redone and has cement slides), The Japanese tea garden. It might be fun to rent a rowboat on Stow Lake. Or walk over the bridge onto the island (called Strawberry Hill) and take the path to the top for a nice view of downtown. |
