Help! I need advice about my new neighbors!!!? |
We just got new neighbors who have several little kids. We love kids, but our larger dog doesn't like them until he gets to know them (because he doesn't know them and they move so fast it startles him). Well we haven't met the neighbors yet, just the kids. My problem is these kids have been riding their bikes in our yard, leaving their bikes lay in our yard (even on the opposite side of the house), taking some yard ornaments we have and putting them in their yard. My biggest concern of course is the safety of the kids; I don't want them to get hurt in our yard (we are on a steep hill and the boy already told me how he "can ride his bike down steps now") or get attacked by my dog because they startled him (we let our dog out on a leash attached to our house that extends to our yard only). My dog is scared to go out half the time now because of the kids, is this fair that I can't let my dog out in my own yard? How can I approach them nicely about this and what do I say??? Thanks! By the sounds of it these people obviously let their children out and without supervision. I would pop over and have a chat along the lines that your dog is tied in your yard but he does get a little snappy around children. If they choose not to listen and still let their children wonder around in your yard then I would put up some fences and a gate. I know it sounds drastic but at the end of the day it will be on your conscience if a child gets bitten and your can't trust these parents to control their kids. Good luck - it's never easy telling other adults the 'rules' but it has to be done! just say what u say here...be nice but firm and then should be n problem.. you should go and talk to the parents and let them know your concern is for the childrens safety Building fences makes good neighbors. This is how the saying goes, anyway, so build a fence! get the parents to keep their kids off your lawn. Just introduce yourself and make friends before you tell them that you don't want their kids in your yard. try to bring it up nicely or try to bring it up nicely to the kids while still sounding like a friendly nice neighbor just tell them what you have told us |
