What do you think is wrong with the youth of America and what can we do to change them?? |
I'm only wondering about this because I see so many kids nowadays being completely disrespectful to adults, other kids, even animals and property. These are the people who will eventually be running the world and so far, it's not been giving me much hope for the future. Why have children gotten SO out of hand and what can parents of tomorrow do differently to make sure that kids are raised the way my mother was raised (the way I was raised even)? And does anyone else think that the world has gotten too "soft"? I mean, when I was a kid, we had gravel on playgrounds, you weren't required to wear a helmet when riding a bike, and we had metal swingsets! What happend and why do people think that kids are more prone to breaking in the 21 century? Tell me your thoughts on these matters and what can be done about it? I agree with you, but other than going back in time I don't know what can be done about it. People don't like it when you say that it's the parents fault. Well to be fair, sometimes no matter what you do, kids just go astray. But for the most part I do blieve the problem does lie with the parents. The parents don't have time. The parents want to be "friends" with their children. The parents don't believe in disciplining the children. It's a society of me - me - me . . . etc. I have a son that's 20. He's smart, polite, well-mannered, respectful, and honestly just an all around good guy. His girlfriends parents say that he's the most well-mannered 20 yr. old they know. We have a great relationship. His father died when he was 6 months old, and I don't have any other children so it's just been he and I. Growing up I was very involved in his schooling, he got spankings when necessary, he learned to be respectful of others (especially his elders), and first & foremost he knew exactly what I wasn't going to stand for. He knew that there were consequences to his actions. Again to be fair, maybe I just got lucky. But I don't believe that he would have turned out the same if he wasn't taught those things. Parents of today need to go back and look at what their parents taught them, and grandparents before that. Somewhere along the line it got lost, or became unimportant. It seems as though good parenting became something to be ashamed of, and now the children are paying for it. Something needs to be done and fast. If it isn't what kind of future will we have? I don't see a very good one . . . Their parents choose not to teach them to have respect for others. I see it every day. But it's not the fault of the child. It is the fault of the parent, who have the responsibility to teach their children. What can be done about this? Parents who actually want to be parents, sitting down and actually teaching their children something. They need God. mandatory millitary service Whats wrong with the youth is that older generations raised them and somehow won't take responsibility for their mistakes. Young people are spoiled, disrespectful, etc.. But you older people created the world we grew up in. Older people set the example and tone. So if you want younger people to improve, then older people need to set a better example themselves. the problem is, some people have babies when they shouldn't be parents and don't give a care about their kids. it's all downhill from there... then it's a single mom who can't raise her children and the children don't have a role model to look up to and they go down the wrong path because they feel like they have nobody. I miss the metal swing sets, those wooden ones start cracking and stuff... scary. But not all of America's "youth" are bad. The one's that behave well and are polite will probably be the one's who hold high positions. Plus have you seen how rapidly fast food joints and restaurant chains have been expanding? They're going to need some people to work there (the people who thought they were big and bad and could do what ever they pleased) Personally I stopped caring if other kids screw up it makes it easier for me to get into a good college and get a good job. But there were a few times when I stepped out of line and the good ol' spanking put me right back in my place. Haha. |
