Opinions on babysitting this summer? |
I am a stay at home mom and babysit in my home. One of the children is 2 & has an older brother who is 9 that I watched last summer &on days school is out or if the parents work late. My problem is that I have 2 kids, watch 2 kids-all 4 and under, so this summer I am supposed to watch the 9 year old and he is so bored! With 4 small children I do not have time to think of things for him. He just wants to set and play video games all day and that causes problems b/c I do not let my son do this for very long him and all the kids want to when he is. The younger brother also doesnt listen as well when his older brother is here. Last summer I made suggestions about bringing a bike, books, etc and they just said he likes video games. I do not have the heart to tell them I want to keep one of their kids and not the other one.It isnt really his fault, he is bored & needs to be around kids his age- if I tell them this I will seem rude. I have made suggestions but they do not seem to get it??? I think they will understand if you explain that you don't let your son sit for very long and play games. If it is not too much trouble, make a "calendar" that you can send home with the parent with a theme for each day. You can modify the activity for the older boy. Bringing/having books for them is a great idea, since each one will have a different type of book for their age and the 9 yr old can read by himself. If the parents don't want to help with the video game situation, they can make other arrangements for their kids. Whether you quit now or not is your preference. Don't be scared. Parents are generally understanding about these sorts of things. No one expects you to take care of their kids until they go to college. lol Be brave. Do what is best for you and your family. If you explain it in that way, they will understand. They are doing the same thing by asking someone like you to care for their kids. If you haven't told them already that you are quitting them in the Fall, I would tell them soon so they can start looking for a daycare with an afterschool program or another babysitter. Good luck! RAPE! I don't feel safe with this woman! You will just have to explain all this to them. You need to be honest with them, I think they will understand. Sounds like he would be happier somewhere else. Maybe they could put him in the Y-they have a great summer day camp for kids and he would be with kids his age. If you want to stop sitting for them that has to be up to you. Good luck! |
