What's a good training distance for a cyclist?

After not having ridden since I was a kid, I bought a bike about a month ago. The past 2 weeks or so, I've been riding most every day. I've been increasing the distance I ride everyday and I'm at about 8 miles (probably a little more). So I'm wondering what is considered a good distance for someone who rides alot. Not a pro athlete level, but someone who trains pretty seriously and is in good shape.

Thanx.

Thanks Dani!

Today I rode about 10 miles, which seems to be about 16km. Not quite upto 20 km yet...

im a cyclist myself. I do road and track. I train everyday. I am also a coach.
so my advice would be not increasing your distance everyday.
your talking about miles and I honestly dont know how to convert kilometres into miles, so I have you can, cause im going to use kilometres.
so start off riding 20km each day, increase your speed, change your route, etc.
once you have gotten to a stage where 20km is easy as (should only take a couple of weeks) then increase to 40km once that is easy then increase to 60km, etc.
It helps if you have something specific that you are training for.
once you get your fitness up you should be able to start doing 100-150km plus.
I am 17 and I have to train at least 60km per day.
good luck with your cycling.
have fun with it.
and love the tan
lol

twinkies = healthy goodness
