Neighbors kid (age 4) took my daughters (age 4) bike....?

and when his older sister (age 6) returned it, the tassles had been ripped off the handlebars and the attached princess handlebar bag was missing. My husband spoke to the mother twice asking for the bag back. She said she has seen the bag in her house and will return it when she gets a chance. It's been over a week and nothing.

It's my daughters first bike. She cries for her bag everytime we go outside and she sees that neighbors house. What do I do now? I don't want to be dramatic, but I'm tempted to threaten her with a police theft report. Kind input appreciated.

Just take your daughters hand and go directly to the neighbors house. Just say I'm sorry but, my daughter has been aking all morning for her bag, can you please get it for her now. She has a 4 yr. old and she should know what its like.

I guess it depends on what type of person the mom is, police reports tend to open up wide rifts with people who live just down the street from you.....I would walk over there when you know she is home (with a neutral witness) and again remind her of the bag that is in her house and how "right now" would be a good time to find it because you were " in the neighborhood"

if she is a worthless drug addict type mom maybe the police would be a good second step

Do what spock said don't give her any warning then she won't try to lie when you bring the police-I had a teachers kid around our corner steal my son's $250.00 battery powered jeep and strip the whole thing and leave it on the corner. Because I didn't witness him doing it there was nothing I could do I guess he was practicing for when he was older to do the real thing

Explain the need to "make good... IMMEDIATELY" to your neighbor...... as the police are standing next to you on the porch.

She's already shown she's a POS and irresponsible trashy mother... WHY give her a 2nd, 3rd, 4th... chance? Call the cops and let her know to keep her "criminal in training" on her own property.

i would walk my daughter (while she is crying) over to the house, with the bike and knock on the door and ask for it again

Give her a day or two- THEN CALL THE COPS! I hate it when neighbors take advantage of other neighbors.

Ask for it one more time. If she still does not return it just buy your child a new one.

buy her a new one.
