Why are parents these days spoiling their kids so much and raising disgracefull spoilt, brats?

Just wondering, In yesterdays "Sunday Daily Telegraph" newspaper in Sydney, was an article about how parents these days are "spoling" their children, not allowing them to play outside, ride their bikes, play football etc....all for the fear they will hurt themselves! Why are parents doing such a disgraceful job raising kids? When i was young, kids climbed trees, rode their bikes, played football, got belted if they were rude and learnt respect. Kids these days, it was reported are growing into "nervous adults" because they haven't learnt to take the hard knocks? Why are parents ruining their kids by being over protective?

It's because all the new 'experts' are claiming that children's self esteem will be damaged if you discipline them and tell them 'no'. I wish parents would stop reading so many books and get back to the old fashioned way of raising kids!

I am sure there are some parents out there like that... but I have two boys and they climb fences and trees, ride their bikes, play outside, catch bugs and frogs, play football and every other sport imaginable. On the belt thing, I don't use one... I think with the way the laws are today many parents are afraid of corporal punishment. My children respond very well to alternative discipline, but I have popped them a few times, although not hard at all. My kids do have manners, but often times people think they don't just because they act their age. Times are different and parents are different. Some of the change is good, and some not so good :)

I so agree with you. My little cousins and their friends are the most spoiled kids. one reason is all the new video games they see and they want, which automatically decreases their level of physical activity. second is all the stupid cartoons like Hanna Montana and zac and cody and other materialistic non-sense. and in the case of not playing outside in the mud, i would have to say changes in the society. These days if something minor happens to a child their parents are in big trouble with the law.

Some are, but some aren't I am still kid ( a girl ) and I loved playing in the mud, riding bikes, swimming lessons, catching frogs, tubing on the lake. I never got spanked though. My parents didn't believe in it, but I still grew up fine. I have strait A's. Well maybe one B, not sure yet.

I know if I see people like that I will just roll my eyes and know my kids will be doing the stuff I did when I was a kid.

It's amazing because I am accused of "sheltering" my child because we cyberschool. She goes outside and rides her bike every nice day after lunch while I sit and watch her while getting ready for the next lesson.

Her best friend nextdoor, he is nine, has taught her how to climb trees and track for animals. They have a ball testing out her lastest science experiment. She has her fare shares of scrapes and bruises. But the most important thing is she is happy and healthy being a kid!!!!!!

I dont see whats so wrong with watching your kids so they dont get hurt!...i dont mean be stuck on there *** until they are 16 years old but you need to keep your eye on them when they are young....just like the other day my friends little girl was playing outside and my friend turned her head for 2 seconds and bang! her daughter split her head open on the pave! and needed stitches! i understand what you mean but you cant just let kids run free in this world these days! but as for people not letting there kids on bikes etc...thats different!

I think you're using the word "spoiling" wrong.

you're thinking "sheltered"

but i don't really know why, exactly they shelter their kids. it's probably partly the media who constantly push the fear agenda.

They are sheltering them too much in your example, not spoiling. However, I do think kids are too spoiled these days too and the reason I think parents spoil is because they feel so guilty about working too much and not spending time with their children.

Because they are stupid and lazy!

Ryan you sound like a fag and it cuz the law has screwed us over people arent allowed to do ne thing to there kids the kids own **** now like they controll there parents now and its all messed over i think parents should be able to smack a kid still cuz i know it works on me if i get a smack i smarten right up
