What's the best way to teach a kid to ride a bike without training wheels?

My daughter is just about 7 and still has the training wheels on her bike, we tried to take them off this weekend, but she's not doing very well with the whole balancing thing.

my mom took one training wheel off and a week later i was ready for the other to come off....less back-breaking than leaning over a bike.

Take her to a low grassy hill and have her practice just balancing as she goes down the hill with her legs out to the sides. It will help her learn how to balance while the bike is moving.

Once she has the hang of that, count how many times she pedals the on her own before she has to stop. She'll keep trying to beat her last best, and eventually it will become easy. Just be careful if the surface is uneven.

I held on to the backtop part of my kids clothes. It helped to stabalise but not too much that I was the reason they were balancing. I say they but should say my son. His twin sister just got on and taught herself. Make sure the bike is the right height for her, too small and there is no hope for her to balance as the knees have to come up too high to balance properly. I also turned it into a game. He could ride a little way and would wobble. Where he stopped he has to try and beat that distance next time. He was riding like a pro before long. They were 4.

my daughter is 7 as well were doing this, I seen someone put take off only 1 training wheel, my son took one off and hes learning to ride pretty good, Im going to do that for her and see how it works.

Hold onto the back of the bike while she rides. After awhile, let go for a few steps, then grab back on again. Each time you let go, let go for longer stretches of time. This will help her gain confidence.

Put 1 training wheel back on and once she is ring to where that wheel comes off the ground then take it off.
