Guy bought a girls bike..? |
A guy I know, a grown married dude with two kids, just bought a new bike, and got a great deal on it. I don't know anything about Giant bikes, so I took the liberty of looking up the model he bought, the FCR 2W to see how much it goes for, specs, etc. I was shocked to find out he bought the women's model, and am also sure he doesn't know. He runs a coffee shop, and he bought this bike from a store in the same shopping center from people he knows. Either the salesperson was slick and just wanted to make a sale, or was clueless and doesn't know a women's specific bike from a man's. So here's the question; should I tell him? It hasn't been ridden more than a few miles, so I think he could return it, but if he's happy, and doesn't realize it's a chick bike, should I just leave it alone and keep my mouth shut? Now I understand why the saddle bugs him so much; it's women's saddle, and too wide for his male anatomy..... If he is short it may be the best fit he could get. Most uninformed people won't know the difference unless they look it up. Let him be happy with his new bike. You could suggest there might be better more comfortable saddle options. I would tell him and he should return the bike. A female specific bike doesnt just have a different seat, the frame geometry is different also. Women have shorter torsos than men, so a women's bike might have too short a top tube for him. The main diffrence is the top tube length, and width of the handle bars, and the saddle as you noted, not knowing your friends size it maybe the best fit he could get. It is alot cheaper to replace the saddle than buy a bigger ill fitting bicycle. If he likes the bike and it fits him well, leave him alone. If you couldn't tell the difference just by looking, it's not significant. And saddles can be changed out. I say, leave him alone unless he asks you. i would tell him....then if he mad tell him to seell the bike for the same price or a little more on ebay and i gave the best answer not the longest Unless he has the dimensions of a girl he should really get a different one. It doesn't matter. Leave it alone. Most I would do is point out that a "male" design saddle may help him out. keep your mouth shut...maybe he wanted the chick bike There is a major safety advantage of a ladies bike. You can dismount easier. If you see an accident coming, it's better to jump off the bike. Even if the bike gets hit by a car, at least you're not on it when the car hits. |
