Scooter wasn't starting - out of oil?

I recently had my scooter in for service, brought it home and it was running fine. Went to take it back out and it wouldn't start at all. It's a 150cc 4 stroke.Charged the battery, checked gas, still nothing. Wouldn't even turn over, just does nothing. Then I checked the oil and found none! Could this be why it won't start and if so, have I permanently damaged anything trying to start it without oil?

hmmmm... if it has NO oil, it would have siezed the engine pretty soon after starting it up, small engines like those turn over a lot of RPMs... You would definitely known of it, the thing would have been clattering like tin cans thrown down a concrete stair case. I suspect that you do have oil in the bike, probably not enough to show on the dip stick, but still some in there. I think that engine only takes about 1 ltr. so if the shop did not cycle the engine over after putting in new oil, it would appear full on the stick, once the motor got into 'action' some of the oil gets up into the 'works' and pretty much stays there unless it is cycled out (happens constantly when the engine is running... so I am thinking that the oil that is 'missing' is just that amount still retained in the engine... add some oil (same stuff as the shop used) small amounts at a time, check the level as you do this, don't want to over fill it... I think (and hope) just a small addition of oil will bring the level up to a measurable level.

OK, the non starting... you say it does nothing, I assume that it is not even making a sound when the starter button is depressed... OK, certainly has NOTHING to do with any problems with the oil, or lack thereof... this is an ELECTRICAL issue, first thing, check to make CERTAIN your kill button is not depressed, I know, it seems silly, but over the years I have seen dozens of experienced riders having all manner of problems, even replacing batteries and such, all to 'discover' that the stupid little kill switch is engaged... so check that first.

Check the fuse, if it is the original one, it is not good quality regardless of the bike builder, Vespa to Ching Chang China scooters, all come with horrible light bulbs and fuses! Most likely you will find the fuse in a little caseing very close to the battery. BTW, unless you have a pretty elaborate bike set up with all manner of fancy electronics, it only has only ONE fuse.

Not knowing the bike at all, the fuse is a great place to check first. Most scooters will still let the starter engage (turn over the starter motor) but will keep the spark from firing when the kill switch is engaged.

OK, other things to check, if your scooter has an 'electric side stand' that can be the problem, nothing electric about the stand itself, but when it is down (extended) it acts as a kill switch as a safety feature... the spark plug WIRE may have become dislodged, also any wires that run from the battery to the starter could be messed up some way, or disconnected...

Hope this might help you get back to riding, Good Luck!

Try refil the oil and if its leaking take it back to the shop. And of its not working with the oil in check out your engien. The lack of oil has probably stuffed it up

Prob didnt help it none but didnt kill it
Who did the service and did they cause it to run out of oil
I would pay them another visit
