Help a college girl find the perfect bike?

Hey, I'm heading off to Corpus Christi this fall, and I really want to find a ride that is good-looking and great on gas mileage. Maybe a moped/scooter kind of bike, or anything you can recommend. I am totally new to the whole bike scene, so any advice you can give me is gonna help!

anything you like, providing it's not got silly amounts of power, and it's not too heavy for you.

best advice i can offer is buy as cheap as possible, so if you chuck it down the road, you won't care. also, 6 months later if you havn't dropped it, you can sell it for what you baught it for!

good luck

different bikes have different applications. Different people have different riding abilities.

I would take a course, after the course have this conversation with one of your instructors. Tell them what you want to use the bike for, how often you will use it etc. They will be best able to judge your riding ability, height, weight, riding style etc, and direct you to a suitable motorcycle for you.

It doesn't make much sense to get a sport bike if you want to go away on weekend trips on long rides. It doesn't make sense to get a cruiser if you just want to go out and carve canyons couple weekends a month. Doesn't make much sense to get a short bike if your 6 feet tall etc.

Picking the right first bike is not just a "whats your opinion guys" kind of thing. How your first bike performs for you, how it fits you, and how it fits what you want it to do will form your basis for how "into" motorcycling you get.

Pick the right first bike, and you will experience dancing on the wind and be hooked for life.

I live in Corpus and my daughter rides a 250cc Yamaha Virago to college. She sometimes commutes to her work in Port Aransas on it, as well. I think its an impressive small cruiser and it will do highway speed, no problem.

Scooters are also becoming popular with the college crowd.
You can ride nearly year-round, here.

You can't go wrong with a Honda Metropolitan. It has that classic Italian Vespa style, can go about 45mph, and gets close to 100mpg, legendary Honda reliability, and it is cheap. Plus you will look cute as a button zooming around campus!

What more could a girl want?

PS. Make sure you don't get a Metropolitan II, these can only go 25mph.

check out the links below - all good scooters that should fit your needs as described above. You might want to check ebay or craigslist for people selling used ones if a new one is out of your price range.

yeah, get away from the PC and go out there and look at a few.. take a class and pick the one that you love. The key is for you to familiarize yourself with the bikes and until that happens no ones advise will make sense

Get a Kawasaki 250 ninja its amazing and very cheap:)
