How do I stop a moped carberator from leaking?

Hi,

I have a scooter/moped - a Geely JL50QT-2B oil injected 50cc 2 stroke. I recently went through and replaced all the fuel lines, and found that afterwards, to my dismay, the drain at the bottom of my carb was leaking gas. Nothing i've tried will stop it. When the scooter is running, it stops leaking, but afterwards it goes back to a steady trickle. Ordinarily this drain can be opened/closed via a screw, but now, despite being closed, it leaks for no apparent reason.

Ideas anyone?

Not to step on toes but if you put lock tight on it you will never get it lose again. The float valve is sticking open, wile the motor is running the gas is getting used so it wont overflow. When you shut it off the valve stays open and overfills the carb and it leaks out the overflow. You need to buy a rebuild kit with o-rings, gaskets and valves. If you have never rebuilt a carb you may want to get some help, lots of small part.
Hope this helps

First shut off the fuel flow coming from the tank.........then take out the screw and let all the gas that's built up inside drain out....then go to your local auto parts store and get some loctite thread sealer that is resistant to gasoline.....that should do it. Hope this helps.

Float is probably sticking. Take off the float bowl and clean the bowl and valve. When you have the float bowl off, turn the gas on briefly to wash out any sediment. Make sure the float isn't damaged, and reassemble.

the o-ring or seal around the screw that you can open or close either had something lodged in it corrupting the seal when its supposed to be closed....or the seal for the screw is torn.
I imagine that the leak is a drip, and it doesn't just pour out.
The reason it stops leaking when it's running is because the moped is using the fuel too quick for it to leak. And when it sits not running the fuel has time to settle and work it's way around the seal.

sounds like your float is stuck, give the bottom of the carb a few taps to see if it'll free itself,if not, take the bowl off and see whats happening in there
