Motorcycle, scooter alternative transpotation?

Hi all. Gas is going up like crazy, and in the future, will be up more (I guess). Now we start to see $4 a gallon already. Do you think American people, instead driving a big SUV, they will change to small car like in Europe, or motorcycle, scooter for transpotation to save gas and less congestion?

Sales of new two wheeled vehicles has gone through the roof lately, and we are probably just seeing the beginning of a very strong trend, not that Americans are that considerate of the environment, or even the cost of gasoline, but once they get a chance to ride a bike of any description, the bug bites and they are cycle nuts from then on!

The average age of new bike buyers used to be in the twenty-thirty year old range... today it is from 45-60

yeah maybe they should but the question is, "would" they? i think the gov't should focus on public transportation. maybe give incentives like a free monthly bus / subway pass.

I bought a 500CC kawasaki that gets 60+MPG as a alternative vehicle.

My husband already has a one cylinder scooter he uses around town for errands, it gets almost 100 miles to a gallon. Regular unleaded was $3.55 today in CA. Last week in Phoenix on vacation it was $2.99. My daughter and I both drive 4 cylinder Civics.

i do- iuse my scooter or motorcycle for everything that doesnt require the use of my truck- scooter gets close to 100 mpg bike gets 50-60 ialso use my electric golf cart 365 days a year- it gets around 1,000,000,000 mpg- i only wish i had my own windmill to charge it- that sets me back about2 or 3 dollars a week

OR maybe big oil companies will stop trying to screw consumer Joe over just so they get even more $$$$$$$$. We should use less gas because of enviromental issue's. The real problem here{rise in gas price} is big corporate BS. It's nice how big corp gets us bent over then makes us have no choice but to take it up the @#%

The price of gas has a direct relation to the value of the dollar on the exchange markets. They are tied. Will the price come down? Because it is a limited commodity probably not any time soon if ever...
Our driving is over longer distances compared to Europe, so Europeans are more inclined towards smaller, more efficient cars.
What we should have is an Intercity High Speed train system like the French and Japanese have. (for instance San Francisco to Los Angeles would be a less then a 3 hour train ride)...We have the technology!!!!
As far as scooters? I have a Vespa and love it, but when it's rainy or cold, I love it less.. It gets 60+mpg so it's cheap to ride. Small cars like the Swatch or an electric would be a good alternative if Hi-speed railroad would be in place for the long haul...

Will they?
Judging by the questions popping up here, yes.

Will I? No. I'm not trading my m'cycle for a scooter.
