Gas Container?

My Room mate and I are attending purdue univ. for college and currently live in a residence hall. Our room is pretty small. We just bought a gas powered Go-Ped scooter. We are wondering if it is okay to store the scooter in our small room. We also have a 2.5 Gal. gas container that we use to mix the 2-cycle oil in. Because the scooter requires a certain ratio of gas/oil. We can't think of any way to store the gas container considering the fumes of the gas could be harmful. The container specifically says not to store in a living area. Please reply with an ideas for a solution.

Hay guys that is so coooool. great idea.

You bet, I would keep it my room....and no place else!
The fumes....if you can't smell it....its fine, you should keep it clean from oil and anything else that smells.

The gas can; If it is a good quality...and you can't smell it your fine. If you can take it out side and open the lid and squeeze the air out and reseal it "causing a vacuum." Then if its holds the vacume....you know your fine, be sure to wash down the outside of the can.

If there is a near by "mop closet" at the end of the hall....I'm sure it would be alright to store it there with all the other chemicals.

To keep things quiet I would place the can in a large trash bag.....and tie the end in a knot ....to keep it tamper proof.
Responsible storage of chemicals and combustibles are only as dangerous as the owner who stores it. Properly,... there should be no problem.

You be the judge....you seem like a "heads up guy."

Today people are paranoid about hazard chemicals. Like soap, paint, car batteries, and common stuff like gas.

If the gas were an explosion hazzard....you could not stay in the room for the smell anyway.......

Some who do not understand such things will tell you all kind of things.....basicly they have no experience with such things and only tell you, what there mothers told them.

Those are the guys who ware "crash helments...and knee pads" just to ride a "bicycle" to the store.........
In my circles we call them "squirrels" or "dorks"........they are just doing what mommie said.......

This would make a good show for "Myth-Busters" about exploding gas in a room......would be "Busted" big time.

Myself; owned a gas station for 25 years, as well as 8,000 gallon gas tanker trucks.... got the stuff stored everywhere even my kitchen to clean my hands some times. Not to mention boat fuels in my laundry...
I don't smell it.....and don't worry about it! When I am home I want to just...."not smell it" for a while.

Its up to you....I'm sure you are responsiable.....but I guarantee you some of your friends are not.... so make your decision based on what some of your idiot friends....will do having gas around....or guns around....or explosives around...or anything else around to show off with....

I think those scooters are so cool......and light! I kept one in my trunk....but gave it to a friend of mines kid.

In Iraq you can buy them new for $55 bucks or Japan $ 70 bucks...and they are a great way to get around, instead of walking.....Some of the Army guys in Baghdad have one, if its cool and safe enough for them.... well..... They keep them in their living areas too....without incident.

So there is my 2 cents guys......You have joined a elite club of cool smart people....who hate to walk anywhere.

Rent a nearby storage room and store the Go-Ped Scooter and the gas can there.
Also works to store other not so needed items out of your way.

u could ask the maintenance dept at the university if they could store it for you

No, don't store the scooter OR the gas can in your room. The fumes from the fuel can build up and be ignited from something as simple as the tiny spark created every time you turn the ceiling light switch on or off, or any other switch for that matter. Serious fire/explosion hazard. Will they allow you to chain the scooter to the bike rack? If so, chain the gas can to the rack as well.

ask if there is a place on campus near you or in the building where you can store it.
芦Good Luck禄

It means what it says. It's a safety issue.
