thinking of buying a Geely gas scooter/moped. the ad states it needs a 43 mm piston ring. is this part hard to find, install and inexpensive? The reason I am asking this is because, I, OBVIOUSLY, don't know what a piston ring is. Hence why I am HERE. and No, i do not mind turning a few wrenches. I have a Geely and live in Mystic, CT. Parts are not a problem since many vendors have them on line. Also, Yahoo has a Geely Moped Club which you might like to take an interest in. Connecticut also has a Geely Club on Yahoo. Lot's of people have Geely's and you will find many who use the scooters/mopeds for work or recreation. Enjoy yours, If you need mechanical assistance sign in to the Geely Club and go to the files section. Proven competent dealers are listed there. Bill Andrews, Mystic, CT Piston rings shouldn't be hard to find. However, it requires an engine rebuild--you have to remove the engine from the scooter and tear it apart enough so that the piston will come out of the head.
Engine rebuilds aren't for the faint of heart, the impatient, or those who don't like mechanic's work.
Besides, I've never heard of a Geely.
If the scooter's only a few hundred bucks and you're fairly comfortable turning wrenches, go for it. But if you were comfortable turning wrenches, you'd know what a piston ring is. My recommendation is to pass on this and get you a Honda Metro.
What? I like the Honda Metro. |
