Regardless of whos fault it is, you are not obligated to purchase that fuel. Your second sentence makes a lot more sense, trade in that huge a-s-s SUV for a scooter or at the minimum a much much smaller car. You save money and gas and emmisions.

It's not W's fault. Gas prices will keep going up, and theres nothing we can do about it. A scooter might not be the safest way around, try a skateboard.

If you looked at gas prices around the world, they still aren't high.

And, yes, maybe you should get a scooter. No point in driving around a big chunk of metal that guzzles gas if you're just doing local stuff.

Not just from a monetary standpoint, but from simply wanting to keep your local air clean too.

That's not quite so; we're just running out of oil that's cheap to get to. What remains is expensive to get to, either because of technical issues (arctic drilling etc.) or political ones (read: OPEC.)

Soon, gas will also be crunched by the environmental stuff, Kyoto Protocol all that.

And the fact that over 2 billion Chinese and Indians are starting to get cars and they want gas too!

Count on this: Gas will tend to get more expensive. It may slip down a little in the short term, but don't be fooled and do something stupid like buy a truck on terms.

P.S. OPEC will make sure the cost of fuel never goes above the cost of alternative fuels like oil shale, ethanol, coal gasification or biodiesel, or the practical costs of converting your diesel car/truck to run on vegetable oil.
So keep an eye on the long-term trends of those costs...

Fear and greed. The so called fear that there could possibly be a disruption of oil supplies world wide should the USA move against Iran (barrel of oil went up $5 during the resent crisis over the 15 Brits, yet oil continued to flow), and greed. One oil exec just got $400,000,000 benefits package. As long as people keep filling up, (from the oild companies' point of view) why should they drop prices? They also claim that some refineries are shifting over to summer blends of gas, yeah right, like we buy that stuff. Basically, the republicans are deeply involved with the oil industry, so the oil industry can pretty much charge what they can get away with.

well there are numouros reasons and some are better explanation then others but its your opinion to decide if its the reason or not. There is of course Bush who is responiable for the which is responiable for high gas prices. THere is your state goverment who imposes additional taxes on the gas such as the recent 10 cent increase in my state of ohio for more highway patrol officers. Another reason is the money hungry gas companies. They change the price dramticaly at will it seems. They give excuses, perhaps you've noticed the big increase from the end of winter until now, of having to do matince on refineries so they have to shut some down leading to increase. Why i have even heard they are still blaming Katrina! Anyways though those are the main reasons and perhaps you should look into a scooter because summer is coming and prices are always more then. Where i live in ohio it got up to 3.15 but know its been a lot higher else where.

IDK, but I think the left wing is interesting. They claimed that if they got in power that gas prices would drop, however, they control the house and senate and prices have done nothing but go up. They even want to put more tax on the fuel, driving the cost up even more. Figure that one out.

They should be higher...we have it easy here in America where we complain about 3.50 for a gallon of gas when prices are 2 and 3 times as high in other parts of the world. I wish gas prices were high because it would then make other fuels cost competitive and break our addiction to foreign oil which is truthfully the foundation for all the unrest we get ourselves in in the Middle East.

The question is not "why are gas prices so high", but rather "why can't I afford gas?" Because gas costs the same as it did in the 1960s when you factor in inflation. You see, the problem is that you waste your money on frivoloties like the latest cell phone, four dollar coffee, or $150 purses, and you think a social life is more important than a better job. The reality is that if you put your mind to it, you could make gas one of your lesser expenses.

It's interesting that we keep Blaming The President whom by the way has no controlling power directly over the price of crude oil or gasoline as much as the commodity traders do. Also nice to hear from our foreign friends to remind us that we're not paying 7Euro per liter like the rest of the world or almost $4.70 like in Canada...

Yes, it is a problem, and it is a drain on the wallet, it will probably get worse before it gets better.... And my last point is that YES, THEY ARE STILL working on damaged Oil Rigs from the 2005 storm season.
