Would it be a bad idea to ride a scooter on the Pennsylvania Turnpike?

I have a 50 mile commute from my home to work. So I'm driving at least 100 miles per day. I spend about $80 a week in gas. So I'm very interested in the scooter. Do you need insurance to drive a scooter? Is it more or less expensive than insurance on a car? I wonder if it would be too dangerous to drive a scooter out on a major highway like the Pennsylvania Turnpike?

Depends on where you are going on the turnpike, but in PA I doubt that it is legal to drive a scooter on a major highway. I would look into that before buying one. Besides with such a small engine, I doubt a scooter would last very long doing 100 miles a day. Not to mention the fact that I doubt they go fast enough to be on a highway, and even if they did you would surely burn out the engine in the thing sooner rather than later.

Ya that would be illegal as the sign when entering the turnpike says NO SCOOTERS.....

Well, I'm not sure about the legality of it, but in reality, scooters today do in excess of 65 mph, which is over the speedlimit on many highways. Yes you do need insurance, but I think it is cheaper than car insurance. I believe many places treat them like motorcycles(in ways of licensing and insurance). As long as you know your limits I don't see why it would be any more dangerous than riding a motorcycle down the turnpike. Plus, you can't beat the gas mileage a scooter gets. I'd just check with the laws, and provided the weather isn't too bad, I'd ride a scooter if I had to go that far, but I'd probably look to avoid the turnpike.

The motorcycle idea sounds the safest to me. You know, enough power to help you get out of a bad environment.

well, driving on any major throughfare on a scooter is like playing russian roulette. Do you want to die? Consider other options. You sound intelligent enough to know what they are.

My scooter is 600cc so I ride it anywhere. It'll go much faster than I will and I don't have to worry about all that shifting.
