Anyone have a Motor/Moped Scooter? |
I am starting to shop for a scooter to use around town and for short quick trips. Figure when I was a kid I didn't mind zipping around on an old Puch moped, so why not be a kid again and save some money on gas. I have a Tank Urban Sporty 150, same company as the one you show here. I like mine. It's great for around down, useless if you need to go over 55 mph. You won't find a chain-drive CVT scooter, because the belt drive is what makes it possible for a CVT (continuously-variable transmission) to operate. You'll get around 70-80 mpg around town, but if you ride it wide-open all the time you'll get closer to 60. Most scooters are 4 stroke, not 2 stroke, which means you use regular gas with no oil mixing. Maintenance is basically changing the oil and spark plug, fuel filter, keeping the tire pressure up, and you'll have to change the belt at some point. I have yet to change mine, and it has 3,000 miles on it. I've heard that a lot of people start needing to change it about 3,000-4,000 miles. It depends on the make. I've got a Vespa ET4, (150cc) and I love it. Anything over 50cc in my state is legally a motorcycle, so I have to have licence for motorcycle also licence plate, insurance & helmet law does apply. Another good brand is Bajaj, they are made in India and have a manual transmission. Very good value. Check your regional craigslist for used values . . Honda, Yamaha, Kymco. If you are considering ordering online, include Bandit in your research. I have a 2004 Pantera Freedom that I have put only 450 miles on it. |
