Single Mom looking for help diagnosing engine issue with a scooter.?

About 2 months ago, I bought a new scooter to joy ride on back roads with my 6 year old.
When I give it the full gas for take off, it often boggs down and sometimes quits. It does starts right back up though.
Lately, when we're stopping at a stop sign or red light, I will rev it up while I apply the brakes to avoid the potential engine failure situation. I am nervous to continue to ride it on the road with its unpredictibility at 2 months old and about 120 miles.
Im hoping it is just a simple adjustment, I can do myself.
Any insight is greatly appreciated!

P.S. Yes, I do now wish I had bought a more powerful ride, but did not do my homework..(frown)

If it is a two stroke mix the gas and oil 40 to 1.air cleaner may be plugged up.May need to clean or replace.

Sounds like the choke is on. Check for a choke lever near the carberator.

What scooter is it? Sounds like it's running rich. That's usually what it is with an engine that is stalling at idle and underpowered(if you smell gas at idle that's the problem and it'll be a definite gas smell). Might also just be a idle adjustment that needs changed, if you don't smell gas it'll be the idle adjustment.

First are you sure that you are starting out in first gear or is it automatic? It could be as the carburetor is changing from idle to high speed there is a pause causing the engine to stall under load. This can usually be taken care of by a simple adjustment to the carburetor. If the carb has adjustment screws give them both a quarter turn out.

Suggestion . . post make and model (cc's, 2-stroke, 4-stroke). What difference does gender or marital status make . . typical female exploitation mentality.

If this is a China 150cc 4-stroke engine, check valve lash.
