What 50 cc vespa/scooter should i get?

ok, i pay too much for gas, and i'm finaly decided to do something about it, i did a bit of reaserch and foud out 50cc scooters are treated kind of like bycles, no extra licens, no insurance, w/ as much as i pay the thing easly pays for is self in less then 2 years, all i got to know is what to look for, what safty features has people had luck w/ what brand is good etc etc,

Tim. I owned a 50 cc scooter and loved it. I had a choice of buying a scooter on line and some other places in my county. What I learned is many scooters sold outside dealerships like Honda or Kawasaki come from China. Though these scooters may be cheaper than the brand names, I was told if they need servicing and parts it's difficult to obtain.

I bought a used Honda Elite 50cc with a limited warranty. Gas mileage was great and I saved bundles of cash. The only concern with 50cc scooters (35to40mph) is they don't keep up with traffic on most major roads. You have to use your own judgment which roads are safe for you to drive on. Otherwise they are fun to drive and are addicting!

Since owning a scooter I did graduate to a Honda 250cc Nighthawk. Still great mileage and now the bikers wave at me as we pass by each other hahaha

scooters from yamaha or honda lines are pretty good. check out the yamaha vino and the honda metropolitian. good luck!

Check your regional craigslist > for sale > motorcycles for used scooter values.

Top speed for most 49cc 4-stroke scooters is around 30-35 mph (on level ground). If you need to keep up with 45 mph traffic, look at 150cc scooters.

While some states don't require special licence, registration and insurance on 50cc scooters. Some do. So check the laws in your specific state.

I wouldn't waste my money on a 50cc Vespa. For that price you can get a decent 150cc. Besides, you will probably get tired of the slow speed and want to upgrade in a year anyway.

Stay away from the chinese ebay/online specials. Kymco 2 strokes are fantastic and probably the fastest 50ccs on the market. Plus there are performance mods available. Check out the Super 9 and People 50.

Of course, you can't go wrong with good old Honda and Yamaha. Though, they are all 4 stroke now and you will be lucky if you can to 35 MPH.

I just got a Yamaha Vino, new 2006 classic. I saved a bundle on it from the dealer since it's last years model. I was only interested in 4 cyc. engines due to pollution and annoyance of mixing oil and gas. This model is liquid cooled, and is much quieter than others. Since I am in the new break in period, I haven't pushed it past 30mph, but seems very peppy getting acceleration. 1/3rd throttle normal with an occasional burst is okay until 90 miles. I refused to buy a 50cc scooter online for the same reasons mentioned. Plus it comes with a complete 1 year warranty w/P&L and 5 years on emmissions! Good luck.
