Hi, I'm looking for my first scooter to get to and from school. Gas prices are killing me here in LA. My question is, how can you tell or look up whether a scooter is C.A.R.B. I've been looking on e-bay and other sites but somtimes they don't say anything about it. I love the look of the mod vespa and need something that will go up to 60MPH like a 125cc while staying w/in the buget of $1200. Any help is much appreciated. THanks!
P.S. -and it needs to be CARB (California Air Resources Board ) legal. You can always ask if it is CARB, but usually there is a logo in the literature on the back itself. That will say if it is CARB or not. I work on Vespas and there great bikes. Much better then wrapping yourself around a sportbike anyways. You'll get sick of it in 100 miles. There heavy, bulky, and use more gas anways. For a great scoot thats inexpensive I would check out the Buddy from www.Genuinescooters.com There out of Chicago, and I know they build great bikes. Take it form someone who works on em. A bajaj is nice also because it has that old school Vespa look ( complete with manual shift ) and will easily get you to 60 mph. Buddy will top out at about 60. 45-50 is it's happy speed. chck out craigslist or scoot.net for a used one. If it's your first one, I woudln't get one too old, they usually require a lil more TLC.
but for 1,200... hmmm again try to look for a used bike. (just saw that part after i wrote all of above )whatever you can find at that price will be great. Also older bikes may be grandfathered out of needing CARB. I'm not sure because I dont live in CA. get a used ninja or somethigng like that like a 500cc one and you have a nice little bike with more power. |
