I really want to get a scooter or moped. The problem is, I don't know anything about them. I was looking at a certain model, a Honda Metropolitian, or a Honda Metropolitian 2. I'm not sure if that is a good model or if i should go with a different brand/model... A couple things that I really need to know is:
1. What kind of gas do they run on? someone told me you had to mix the gas with oil...
2. Do you need a license (other than drivers) to ride one in the city? i feel like the answer is no but im not sure.
3. How much should i expect to pay for a nice one?
Any other info would be great! Thanks!!! Get a copy of Scoot!Quarterly. This issue has a ALL scooter buyers guide". (link below)
Also, Most of them require special licensing, its easy as a driving test. Some people will answer and say "yeah, if it`s a under-50cc scooter, You dont need no license" but that`s wrong. MOST states say that it has to be under-50cc`s AND NO MORE THAN 30MPH to not need an endorsement. It`s a drag being stuck at 30mph, with people honking at you.
Modern scooters usually just run on regular gas, Vintage scooters mix gas and oil (some mix it themselves with a seperate oil tank) Most modenr scooters are "Auto trans" and the vintage scooters are Manual shift.
DONT buy one that`s made in Mainland China, DONT buy one from the Internet, DO go to a dealer!
E-mail me for more info ( mdcbert@yahoo.com ) and tell me what state you are in, we can figure out what the laws are there, and who sells the magazine, and find a good dealer.
Rallies are super fun, riding with 100 other scooter at the same time is a blast. Hi weathers. Your question is an interesting one since I had always wanted one scooter ot a moped. But here is the link I thought you should read and then decide.
