Will not start on long trip? |
My scooter runs great unless I drive further than 5 miles then after I stop it will not start, it has electronic ignition if I wait 30 minutes it will start again, it doesn't seem to get hot, and I don't smell gas any ideas? You have a low battery or a starter which is ready to fail. It sounds like a 2 cycle engine, right? You have a oil tank from which oil is injected as a mix with the fuel. Two strokes as small as yours will sometime seize slightly after getting hot. As it cools the seize reduces and the battery will have enough power to crank the engine. If your scooter is one of the Chinese scooters you should immediately replace the battery. They always put cheap, weak batteries in the scooters they export. It won't have power to crank a hot engine. That will do it probably. If the issue still exists after the battery swap you'll need to get the oil injection system checked. Possibly insufficient oil is being supplied. But, I'll bet on the battery. JUST NOTICED THAT SOME IDIOT GAVE A THUMBS DOWN TO THIS ANSWER. I wonder if the critic is over 12 years old. Sounds like a vapour lock in the fuel line...reroute the fuel lines away from anything hot and it should be OK. Always give year, make, engine size and model # when asking questions. We need all of that info to give an informed answer. I agree with the low battery answer. DO NOT! use jumper cables hooked up to a car battery! |
