I thinking of buying one of those little scooters that go about 40mph to go to work. Will I need insurance?

My job is only about 3 1/2 mi from my house, so I figured I could save money on gas. I'll probably need to buy a helmet, but what about insurance, or is that on a state-by-state basis?

i also live in va and no, you are not required to have insurance. you're not even required to have a drivers liscence. it's considered a recreational vehicle.. like a four wheeler.

yes of cause you need insurance,what if you were to run into an expensive car you could easy be up for thousands of dollars,you can ride them on your car driving licence,but thats totally different to insurance,
