Can a bike with a quick release wheel fit completely in a car trunk?

I want to buy a bike (my first since I was a kid) but need one that can fit into the trunk of a car, so that I can commute to work on the bike but catch a lift home. Do I need to buy a folding bike, or will a bike with a quick release front tire do the job?

depending on the car you are trying to use, I would think that a quick release on the wheels should do the trick...worst case scenario: you would have to take both wheels off, but that only takes about 2 minutes...folding bikes are garbage Source(s): mtb rider
Generally most bikes with the wheels removed will fit in a trunk. Kinda depends on the trunk.
definetly a bike with quick release can fit in the trunk of a car if it has a big trunk or it the seats can pull down in the back. if that dosen't work it will fit enought to bungie cord the trunk to keep it down over the bike.

p.s.- quick release is a great idea if you ride alot or long distance. you can adjust the tightness without tools and change a tire in a snap!
I have a VW Passat and a 58cm standard road frame. With both wheels off it fits in the trunk quite nicely. In fact it's in there right now, locked up and outta sight.
Most will fit in most trunks if the seats fold down. Check it out with your local bike shop.
Absolutely, with quick release wheel a bike can fit in almost any truck - provided that you don't drive a Smart. I would stay away from folding bikes. They are nice in theory, but often a little quirky to ride. They are great for people who fly a lot and want to have a smaller package for travel. But, 99% of riders can get away with quick release wheels.

One thing to keep in mind though. Buy a bike with quick release front and rear. Only the lower end of bikes these days would come with bolt on wheels. If you are going to be commuting on it, spend the money to get a bike that will last.
