Anyone here got a folding bike? |
I want one, as cheap as possible, what do you recommend?? I travel a lot for work so I've been researcing this... the answer is... it depends. but, check out www.downtube.com (I have no relationship with them) they have lots of good reviews and the price/quality seems good. Also check out Dahon www.dahon.com they are probably the market leader in the low-price/casual market. the trade-offs you will deal with are quality (parts and also "ride quality"), the fit, and "how small/quick it folds" good luck Scott well, i'll tell you what NOT to do: do NOT go to West Marine and buy one $$$$$ do NOT go to Ebay and buy one CRAPPY do NOT go to the most expensive bike story and buy one $$$$$ DO go to the internet and look one up DO ask your nearest bike store Sorry if I wasn't that much help. no My grandad got 2 on the internet they are very good. But he went to a specialist store on the internet and they were very expensive so I would look for some on the internet. Good Luck I have a KHS folding bike, bought it 2 years ago, cost around $ 300.00 go to your local bike shop and ask... they may have to order one for you. don't go to Walmart, Kmart, or any other store like that... you don't really want one as they are awful and extremely uncomfy compared to a normal bike so unless u have to have a folding bike then don't I rather have a regular bike, they are better all around. If you must have a folding bike, go to a serious bike shop and ask. Get the one that has the best warranty! As folding bikes sometimes are faulty or they are very sensible because of so many moving parts that need to be light yet be able to take a lot of force (from pedalling, weight, etc.) Get one that is easy to fold and unfold, that is strong and that does not wiggle and feels lose. Know where you are going to use it and for what. So you get it with the necessary accessories and gears, but not with a lot of extras you will not need that just add weight, price, and trouble. Try it out before buying. See how it feel when you ride it. See how you feel when you have to fold/unfold and carry it around. Cheap as possible is related to minimum satisfaction you can get from your bike. Take that into consideration and compare your choice with a regular bike of a similar price. Maybe the folding bike is not a must. Hope my opinion helps. |
