Good inexpensive folding bike available in UK?

I want a folding bike that is suitable for long distances (such as Plymouth to Derby!) and isn't too expensive. The cheaper the better, but I also want one that won't collapse or break, with gears and good breaks. Any ideas?

I just want a good bike cos I do a lot of travelling.. I need it to fold to put in boot of car cos I swop homes pretty often and have no room to carry a big bike with me.

The closest I can come to all your requirements is a Bike Friday. These are amazingly responsive and ride very well over long distances.

You do get what you pay for... Fridays start at about 1000GBP and go to about 3000GBP. This is about as cheap as it gets if you want something that fulfills all your needs.

you are sort of contradicting yourself there

you say you want to travel long distances (road/racing bike)

you also say you want a folding bike (only good for short distances and commuter use)

and one with good gears and brakes (mountain bike)

i think you should focus on buying a road racing bike not a folding bike

Lots of choices but you're dealing with conflicting constraints (distance comfort/efficiency, cost, quality)
