How does biking compare with walking as all-round exercise?

I've read the experts who point out one can bike 3-5 times farther in a given time period than can be walked, but is it really that simple? Aren't different muscle groups used, different levels of cardio-vascular and/or pulmonary functions brought into play?

According to the first site, running 6 mph burns more calories than bicycling. And running on a treadmill will burn the same amount of calories in less time than riding an exercise bicycle.
I believe you should think about which one you are more comfortable with and I also think a good rounded workout containing both bicycle and walking/running is far better than just one or the other.
The second & third link describes the muscle groups used in bicycling along with some other great info. Source(s): http://www.usgyms.net/machine_chart.htm...
