How to encourage 13yr old physically lazy girl into exercise? |
My daughter is 13 years old. She is pretty slim, no weight problems. I would like her to be more active in physical activities but she refuses to bike or go for a walk. I thought perhaps she does not like to sweat so I suggested her to do yoga (no sweating). she has some health problems and I think doing exercise will do her only good. She is stubborn as hell and refuses everything. It is the age as well I know. Threatening, rewarding, reasoning, reverse psychology, showing friends as examples, explaining health benefits, registering for clubs like tennis, dance, netball did not work so far. She is just genuinely not interested. Question 1: Is there any way to kick her out of the couch and from the computer? Question 2: Is it ok what I am doing or I should just let go and don鈥檛 bother at all. Try Dance Dance Revolution. It's very good for cardiovascular type exercise, and kids don't realize they are getting exercise, because they think they are just playing a video game. tell her that even though she is in shape she is not healthy and that one day her metabolism is going to slow down and she will be a nasty fat ***! First off she is 13 she is still a child and needs to listen to the parent secondly what type of sick ness does she haven and running in place jumping jacks things like that will not harm her she can walk from one stop sign to another to get her cardio going and does she take vitamins. Let it go. It's a small issue compared to most things going on in teens' lives. If she starts to gain considerable weight, she'll probably do something about it. well it seems you're very concerned about her health. try finding a sport she likes. cut her off from the tv. have her hang out with friends. maybe talk to her friends to see what they think. do any friends live around? i'm talkin close enough for her to walk or ride a bike? well, next time she asks to go, you should tell her the only way she'll get there and can go period, is if she walks or rides her bike. keep in mind that she is thirteen, but she is to the age that she should be more active and stuff, so you're doin fine. =D Reward her with going on the computer for her cycling to the shops to buy milk for you. If she isn't overweight, don't let this be responsible for arguments in the house. I hate exercise, too. What I do enjoy is dancing. I took a ballroom dance class and I lost 20 pounds without trying. I doesn't have to be ballroom. Dancing is good cardio workout. I never imagined ballroom dancing could make so many muscles ache. I loved every minute of it. |
