Beginners Guide to the Gym? |
Hi guys. I have recently started using the gym and am basically looking to lose a little bit of weight and tone up. I am currently sticking quite heavily to cardio work, particularly the rower and exercise bikes. I try and row around 4000 meteres 4 times a week (at the highest resistance level)and bike at least 10km. For all you experienced gym users out there can I expect to see results soon or am I doing the wrong combinations? You need to do something that gets your whole body moving - not just the arms or legs. Get on the treadmill, jog, walk, take a kickboxing class, etc. Good for you for getting into a workout routine! A couple of things to keep in mind: 1) Cardio will help you burn fat. Whatever exercise you choose to do, it should get your heartrate up. Some exercises allow you to burn more calories in a shorter period of time. Running, for example, burns more calories than cycling in a given time period. 2) The more muscle you build, the more efficiently your body will burn calories - both when you're working out and when you're at rest. So for your cardio workouts to be more effective, be sure you're also working your various muscle groups. Your gym probably has someone who can help you put together a routine or show you how to do certain exercises using correct form. 3) In addition to exercise, you also need to watch what you eat. Your workouts will have little effect if you're not watching what you put into your body. Best of luck! I'm a certified fitness instructor. Eat only when hungry and not more than thrice a day. Nothing other than water in between. Include plenty of uncooked vegetables and fruits in each meal, preferably 50%. Chew each morsel at least 32 times to activate ur body to generate signals of hunger/fullness. Obey these signals. Take light exercises and brisk walks regularly preferably twice a day. U will achieve what u have not even dreamt and that too in a reasonable time. Do not be in a hurry. Brother Iron,Sister Steel,by Dave Draper is the best book I`ve read on lifting weights. He also has a website .he is down to earth and relates to average people and fitness buffs alike. |
