Why am I losing weight so rapidly?

Im 20 years old....5'9 around 180. I have been noticing that Im starting to lose weight rapidly. Im not on any kind of a diet or anything. I eat 5 times a day: breakfast, lunch, snack, dinner and desert but all are portion controlled meals, lots of veggies, fruits, chicken and fish. I do treadmill for 40 minutes in the morning, exercise bike for 30 minutes in the evening and weights for 45 minutes. Treadmill and the bike 5 times a week and the weights on alternate days. I have a pretty active lifestyle. I like the fact that Im losing weight but Im concerned about the fact that it is at such a rapid pace. I have been reading a lot about how a healthy way to lose weight is to lose 1 pound a week. But I weigh myself every other day and Im starting to notice that Im losing about 1.5 pounds every two days. Is this healthy? Am I losing fat or am I losing muscle?

You are just lucky, I guess! ;-) You have left out some important information such as, your sex/gender, current overall health, body type, overall health, your weight goals, how much you want to lose, etc. If you are female (depending on your type of body frame, i.e., small, medium, large, etc.) you should weigh anywhere from, 145, 152 to 160. For males, 152, 164 to 170. Note: You should get a physical before embarking on physical regimen and/or diet of any kind!

That being said...it sounds like you are doing everything right! I'd say that in a few weeks (give or take) your weight loss rate will slow down and stabilize. Keep in mind that you are only 20 and your body is still changing. Kudos to you for adopting a healthy lifestyle at such a young age.

My suggestion to you is to alternate the different types of exercise, such as weight training one day, cardio the next, etc. Also, very important, your body needs a day or two of complete rest (no exercise) in between! You could be breaking down your muscle by too much exercise! While you are on your exercise regimen you need to allow your body proper rest in order to regenerate your muscles. It's okay to work your muscles but allow them a couple of days of total rest. If you feel compelled to exercise on your "resting" only days do ONLY casual/light walking (no power-walking, etc.)!

Keep up the great work! A good online reference is: http://www.jillianmichaels.com/... Source(s): Trial and error...
Wow that is a lot of weight...I would speak to a dietician and your doctor. Something isn't right that's for sure. Healthy weight to lose is 1 lb a week - like you mentioned!
Check your blood sugar. You may be diabetic.
u doin exercise man
That's not rapid weight loss. That's pretty comfortable actually depending upon where you want to end up. If you feel it's too fast for your body, back off some of your cardio. You may be overdoing that, but otherwise I doubt that's too much too fast.
I wouldn't worry too much about it...how long have you been this plan of portion controlled meals/excersise? It could just be your effort kicking in. Even so, you should probably schedule an appointment with your doctor if you are concerned. that is quite a lot of weight to lose and something could be going wrong.
