How many calories do you need to burn to lose 1 lb. of fat?



I want to lose 15-20 lb. because I weigh more than I'd like to and want to slim down within a months time. There is an exercise bike in my complex's exercise room that also displays how many calories you burn so I want to see what kind of numbers I have to hit to ensure I'll lose the excess weight.

Burning 3500 calories burns 1 lb of fat.
3500 Calories = 1 pound.
To burn a pound of fat you need to burn 3,500 calories (that is about 500 calories per day)

To do this you need to get your diet (total calories) within your maintenace level and create a deficit from both diet and exercise.

Try to burn 500 cal. a day, and eat 500 cal. less a day, to lose two pounds a week

You cannot burn 3500 calories in one session of anything, unless it involves a surgeon. You can burn a few hundred calories a day at most by exercising. The rest of the calorie deficit needs to come from limiting your calorie intake.
