Exercising while I am pregnant? |
With my first daughter, I had a lot of complications during pregnancy so I didn't even get to walk, and I gained so much weight! I just found out I am 8 weeks pregnant, and I am going to exercise as long as I can. I asked my OBGYN if I could exercise, Pilates that is an ab workout. She didn't specifically answer about ab workout but said to me, "You can do any exercise you want as long as you can talk and breathe normal, once you can't you are overdoing it. And don't ride a bike or rollerblade, your center of gravity is off, and you will fall". I am doing Gunnar Petersens Core Secrets Workout and Pilates 10 minute ab workout. Can I do ab workouts while I am pregnant? Any good exercise ideas for my thighs? They get huge when I am pregnant?! Yes, you can still exercise which includes ab workouts. For thigh issues, a good one would be the standard ball between your knees and squeeze...or squats. Just don't go overboard. You don't want to overexert has your doctor said...just remember, any kind of activity is good so don't feel like you need to go crazy. Enjoy and congrats! just walk, its safer my freind had her bub 8 weeks prem cos of overdoing the exercise, its not worth it, xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx and ABSOLUTELY NO AB EXERCISES, OR SQUATS AND STRETCHING You can continue your same ab workouts for the first trimester. After that your muscles start to lose some of their integrity because they are having to strech out so far. Also, after the first trimester you don't to do excercise on your back to protect blood flow. The good news is there are pilates and yoga classes and dvd's that modify excercises so that they are safe and effective for pregnant women so try those out after a couple months. As long as your doctor clears it, exercise is fantastic in pregnancy. It keeps your body very strong which is important when you are going through so many changes. I'm 38 weeks today and still walk 3 miles a day, plus still practice pregnancy yoga and attend my classes. Good luck to you. **edit** Rockmum, you are nuts. First of all, most people in the world give birth in a squatting position. I doubt they do this by not squatting for 9 months and then expecting their muscles and ligaments to get into and hold the position. Secondly, you use your abs for everything at every moment of the day, this includes sitting up and breathing. It makes sense that you need to do what you can to help them work more effectively. Thirdly, no streching? Your body is producing hormones to strech out because it knows the importance of needing to strech for the upcoming birth. I am sorry about your friend, but without the rest of the cirsumstances surrounding her condition such as did her doctor know what she was doing, was she listening to her body, did she change her exercise regime to be more stressful at this point? I am afraid it is a poor example to base anything on. There are really great pregnancy videos out there now. Go check on Amazon. They have a variety of difficulty levels. As for exercising on your own. Answer some of these questions: 1) what was your activity level before p.g. 2) what was your muscle strength/tone before p.g. Walking is GREAT for preganancy. Monitor the ab work though. For the most part everything will be fine...but you do need to watch out for preclampsia...spotting...baby position...etc. good luck! A great exec rise for women, which helps the women to relax, and stay calm, and where u get a good workout is Yoga. Yoga helps to make one more flexible, and strengthen your body allover. Swimming is also a great exec rise for women also help gain muscular strength and is a good cardio workout. Also a brisk walk if possible is also good for cardio, and helps the thighs. Whatever you do just make sure you are safe and you check with your doctor first. i am not sure why people think you cannot do ab work while pregnant. yes you can do ab work while pregnant, just don't OVER do it. if it hurts, stop! also you should really avoid things you did not do while not pregnant. pregnancy is not a good time to start a new workout. if you have never worked out before then you should stick with walking and swimming. i take spin class and water aerobics while pregnant, i love it! i also lift weights and do plenty of ab work, doctors and my personal trainer have both said it is fine! just make sure you do not get your heart rate too high. good luck! i know of a friend who was pregnant... and did very mild ab work outs, early in the pregnancy leg lifts are great and quite safe to do, scizzors exercises for the legs and leg kicks while standing and sitting watching television, but i advise curbing the abdominal exercises around the 4th month..REALLY!!! when you are don with the pregnancy the day you get home ONCE ITS NOT A CESARIAN SECTION!!! lie flat on your back and use diaper material and wrap mid section as low as the pelvic bone tight secure with large pins, and wear this during the day time when you have a bath put it back on it helps the abdominal muscle to tichten instead of remaining loose to allow gravity to play a part it worked for me and i got the link from my grand mothe rnad mother passed it onto me, allmy sisters did ti and the have fime tummies...also use olive oil onthe stomch to help the skin tobe suple for the stretching this helps alot... safe delivery...... |
