Am i exercising enough? When will I start to see results? |
I use to ride my bike about 9 miles to work four days a week. One way. over about a 3 months period i lost a good..40-50 pounds. I gained it all back Now im riding a stationary bike, doing about 10-11 miles a day, an hour a day buring around 550-650 calories. I dont have a big caloric intake, i eat probably twice a day, moderatly healthy. I just started this routine 3 days ago, and it seems like theres no weight change what so ever. Im probably being to hasty but, I have a four month window in which i want to get to my ideal weight. Do i need to kick up my exercise habits? I weight 220, im 20 years old 6'2 and my ideal weight is 190-180 ..around there. :-D help would be apreciated. I would say your exercise is enough, however i would do more than just biking, get your whole body involved. As far as your weight loss. I think what is holding you back is your metabolism. Eat six times a day, small full meals. same or maybe a little more total than what you are now. Every time you eat this kicks the metabolism into full gear. On your exerciseing. Make sure you exercise first thing before eating or drinking in the morning when your glycogen levels are down. this will burn the weight off ultra fast. If you do weight lifting or such where you involve alot of physical work, but not cardio, right afterwords is another great time when your glycogen levels are down for your cardio. Also make sure your cycling your pace start out easy 3 minutes, then moderate 2 minutes, then hard 1 minute, then moderate 2 minutes, then hard 1 minute, moderate 2 minutes, then easy 3 minute, repeat You're getting there. Hey you need to eat more often. If you have about five or six small meals a day of healthy and low fat stuff, your metabolism will speed up it's true, it happened to me. Make sure you cut out refined sugar and anything with hydrogenated oil in it. well do you ever sweat when riding yoour bike. In order to loose it you must sweat because sweat helps you loose weight. also try healthier meals other than that your doing very good. You dont need to under-eat..You need to eat many SMALL meals a day (4-5). This will keep your metabolism up and you will burn more. Eat healthy foods covering all parts of the food pyramid. No fast food. No matter how much you eat if you excercise and burn the calories off you WILL lose the weight again. Be patient, and try running once and awhile. You burn more in a given time than biking and it puts you in better overall shape. No you are not excercising hard enough, if you are only doing 10 miles in an hour then you are only going 10 mph. thats barely faster than walking! you need to either peddle harder or do it longer, at that slow speed you are probably not even breaking a sweat so its pointless. i ride a stationary bike 45 mins a day and do about 17 miles in that time, i am going full speed and since i started this regiment i have lost 10 lbs in 2 weeks if you are only eating twice a day and not every three hours, then your results will barelly show. when you excercise like that, you have to feed the muscle, but what you are doing is breaking down the muscle because you are not eating enough protien and carbs to repair the muscle, therefore you wont see the muscle. kabeesh? Losing weight doesn't take place overnight unless you want to be dumb and use laxatives or vomit. Anytime you are involved with physical activity on a continuous basis you will lose weight and maintain the loss. It sounds like you weren't as active after you stopped riding your bike a few months ago and gained the weight back. That's because even though you continued to work and be active you were sedentary - you weren't as physical as you were. In order to lose weight and keep it off you have to maintain a regular and consistent exercise program. It doesn't have to be strenuous, just consistent. Continue your exercising and dieting responsibly and you should lose between 2.5 and 4 pounds per week, but it does add up to nice loses. If you step up you exercise program all you will be doing is aggravating your muscles. Then, if you're like most people, you'll slow down on your routine because you hurt too bad. Just stick to what you're doing and good luck. |
