How can I convince my family to stop telling me I'm obsessed with exercising? |
My sisters especially make comments that make me feel badly about myself. I usually run and/ or bike 6 days a week because it clears my head, helps me to sleep better, and keeps my metabolism up. I don't harp on them to exercise. How can I make them understand that this is what I love? If you are being HEALTHY (which hopefully is their only concern) then don't let it get to you. Are you eating right? Is your weight where it should be? Are you making HEALTHY decisions about yourself? Are you getting enough calories of GOOD food? If so, then don't listen to them. Tell them you are finally on a healthy track, that you have come a long way to get to the point where you are, and you would like positive reinforcement...or no comments at all. 6 days or even 7days a week is not too much exercise....but it depends on WHY you are doing it and whether or not you are keeping healthy. When a person makes positive changes in their lives...health, drinking, drugs, driving, vegetarianism, social/friends, job, etc...there are always critics. Always people who ask why, who doubt and question and challenge that person's new ways. If YOU are being healthy (and only YOU and your doctor know if you are), then keep it up. Don't be dragged back a year by the nay-sayers! Remind yourself where you were...and where you are now...and how far you have come. THAT is the sort of reinforcement and motivation you should be hearing from people! Surround yourself with healthy people who support a healthy lifestyle...and don't get sucked down by those who challenge it. Source(s): years and years of triathlons... 1) kill them or 2) stop exercising dont do it in front of them Dunno, I know that atheletes don't seem to live any longer so might as well sit right here and type. Don't worry about it. You are the one that will be in good shape. They will see that later on in life. Explain to them why you exercise. And tell them how good it is for you. They shouldn't tell you that you are obsessed... Sounds like you want to be healthy. Nothing wrong with that :) |
