Anyone have arthritis in their ankles or feet? What do you do for exercise?

I injured my foot 20 years ago and now have arthritis in it. I like to walk, run, bike and swim. I am very concerned due to the fact it has really started to cause me pain. What to do?

I find that warm water exercise is the best for me. It takes the weight off of my ankles and feet. Here is an article about warm water exercise.

I have heart and lung damage from chemo so I do not swim. I just walk laps around the pool. It has done wonders for both my ankles and knees.

It sounds to me like you have Osteo-arthritis, also known as a degenerative joint disease. I myself have Rheumatoid Arthritis, which affects my feet, as well as other joints. Keeping active is a major part of my life, so this is what my experience is...

An anti-inflammatory will help with swelling as well as pain. There are a lot of products out there to choose from. I myself can't take too many because of other health interactions, so I take a natural remedy called Lyprinol. It's an extract from the New Zealand green lipped mollusk which contains high levels of omega3 fatty acids- very effective anti-inflammatory.

Glucosamine and MSM are very beneficial for joint health. Ibuprofen will help with inflammation and pain relief.

I myself find that heat, a hot water bottle, heating pad, or soak in the hot tub, helps with pain and stiffness.

Be sure to talk to your doctor about your pain and situation, he/she may want to take x-rays to check for damage, and will have excellent advice on what pain relief is best for you.

Hopefully, you'll be able to be running, walking, biking and swimming pain free in no time!

Best Wishes!
