I've injured my knee exercising, what to do?

Ive been jogging recently as well as going on the exercise bike. I developed a pain in the back of my knee and its steadily got worse, now its really hard to straighten my leg without getting a shooting pain behind my knee and tightness in the front of my knee. What part of my knee have I injured and how should I treat it?

Its only in my right knee, not knees and Im strict when it comes to hydration when exercising but thanks anyway. Im pretty sure though the pain is injury related.

Sounds to me like you could have injured the meniscal cartilage or articular cartilage of your knee (I think prolotherapy will possibly only if its a ligament injury - I can't see that it will help a cartilage injury).

I suggest seeing a physio, a sports injury doctor or othopaedic consultant specialising in knees with a mind to getting a diagnostic MRI scan (with special cartilage enhanced sequences)

Most likely you have a kidney issue. Problems with the knees as you described are usually due to weak kidneys. Make sure you are getting enough water in your system, especially when you are exercising. If you injured it, see a doctor and get an MRI on it. This will tell you what is going on physically. If you have a problem, go see a sports medicine doctor that specializes in "Prolotherapy." That is a simple way to fix most physical problems with the knee and it's NOT expensive.

The average person needs water at the following rate:

Take your total body weight and divide by 2. That number is the amount of water in ounces that you need to drink each and everyday. Along with that, you should consume 1/4 teaspoon of "air dried sea salt" in conjunction with each quart of water you drink. This puts the electrolytes in your body that will give you proper hydration. The typical white table salt you buy in stores like the Morton Salt, for instance, is terrible for you and has loads of chemicals added. Avoid that junk. If you drink ANY diuretic drinks like, sodas, coffee, tea, alcohol, commercially prepared fruit drinks, energy drinks, etc., these all dehydrate you and you will need to add more water to the total to compensate for the water loss due to these diuretic drinks. Take the total ounces of the diuretic drinks and multiply by 1.5 and add that total to the original total to come up with the proper amount of water you need to drink each day.

When you exercise, you lose 24% of your water through persperation. You need to take this into consideration when calculating your water need.

good luck

You prob pulled your muscle, If you've pulled/strained it you need to rest the leg (elevate it on a pillow) and if theres swelling use ice, if not use a warm water bottle (it helps soothe) and take some paracetamol. if it still feels like that after couple days of rest go to the hospital and get it checked out incase you've damaged a bit of muscle or tissue (unlikely though). Good luck :)

ask a physiotherapist for mroe specified advice

when you do get recover, try some gentle exercises

like yoga or pilates
