Exercise and nutrition question?

Well I am a thin person but I was eating a diet with not very many nutritional variations and with little exercise.

Over the past month I have changed my diet to a cereal in the morning with a banana and orange/apple juice(pure). For lunch I have have a ham and cheese sandwich plus pure fruit juice and for dinner I have white meat, a portion of vegetables and some carbohydrates(potatoes or rice)and pure fruit juice. I also drick at least 5 glasses of water in the spaces in between day!

Adding to this I have also started doing at least an hour of brisk walking each day and regular bike rides around the countryside and keeping generally active.

My mother is very knowledgable about diet and exercise and she says this is much healthier to what I used to do but I have gained weight!

I do not know why, maybe it is because I was just not eating much before. I am still quite thin and I am not bothered with the weight gain Im just interested to kno why.

Any ideas why this could be?

Is it me or were you asking why you'd put on weight eating healthily and exercising rather than how to lose weight?!?!?!?

I think the main reason you've probably put on weight is that you've built some muscle from the walks and cycles - not fat from eating unhealthily.

That daily diet is excellent, I'd probably substitute some of the juice for actual fruit as you can only use 1 portion of fruit juice as your 1 a day as when the juice is pressed you loose the fibre,

Enjoy!

The reason you have gained weight is because you are eating and exercising properly! My boyfriend is naturally extremely skinny, and has done the exact same thing as you and gained weight.
Don't worry, you are healthy, and plus in a little while, all that extra weight will be muscle. :D
Best of luck x x

JUST EXERCISE AND STICK TO A NORMAL DIET.....CUT OUT SODAS, JUNK, ETC...

STICK TO EVERYTHING ELSE BUT HAVE SMALLER PROPORTIONS...AND DRINK TONS OF WATER...8 GLASSES PER DAY....

EXERCISE=GOOD HEALTH, LIFETIME OF HAPPINESS..

maybe you gained muscle?thats not a bad thing dude

If you are being more active, you could have put on muscle, particularly in your legs which are the largest muscle group.

I would nix all the juice though. An apple has both sugar and fiber. The fiber causes the sugar to be absorbed more slowly. Apple juice is just sugar and causes your body to produce a lot of insulin to deal with the massive sugar rush. Any fat or sugar in the blood stream will be stored as fat.

Replace the juice with real fruit, and add some protein for breakfast, be it eggs or a whey protein powder. Also, put some tomato on that sandwich or eat some carrot sticks with it.

I recommend the following book for advice on food: Ultra-Metabolism by Dr. Mark Hyman.
