The age old question ;) what is the best way to...

Loose weight?? I know that good old fashioned exercise is the way forward, but what kind of exercise is best for me?

-I don't really want to exercise in public as i will get embarrassed (I feel bad enough just walking down the street) so a gym and jogging is out.
- I own an exercise bike and a stepper machine, but i don't think that is enough and how long should i exercise for?
-I eat healthfully (I'm not lying)
-I drink a lot of green tea as it has anti-oxidants in it
-money is a problem so i cant go out and buy weights or anything.

Is there anything else i can do?
How long should i be exercising for and should i do sit ups or anything like that?

Thanks for your help

James

well that just goes to show that you didn't read the whole question as i said i eat healthfully

Well, you have to start somewhere, and the workout bike and stepper is going to have to be it for you. I would also recommend jumping rope because it is great cardio and good for your legs. Plus, it can be done almost anywhere so you can hopefully avoid going in public and they are cheap so it fits in with your budget. Green tea is great, but did you know that dark chocolate has even more anti-oxidants? Blueberries, acai, and pomegranate are also great sources. Eating healthy is great! Drink a lot of water too, but be careful not to over-hydrate your body before your workout. Old fashioned push-ups and sit-ups are great too. I am a martial artist and that is mainly all I do in addition to jogging and jump rope.

One more thing, don't EVER feel bad about going outside to exercise. No one will think less of you for trying to get into shape, most people would actually admire your dedication.

Best of luck and I hope this helps!

the Bowflex commercials lie, you can't lose weight from liftin weights. Lifting weights is called "strength training" which builds muscles under fat which it turn makes you look even bigger. Its great that you have an exercise bike and stepper machine, just use those for 30+ minutes daily and keep eating healthy.

Start by eating a lot less:that helps always:running up and down the stairs is also good:make you burn a lot of fat
And bike at least 30 minutes vigorously.
Sit ups and crunches can help too.
And look at this site:
http://exercise.about.com/od/weightloss/...

eat 5-6 small meals each day .. every 3-4 hours ...

walk as much as you can

and do some mild but rigorous exercise

drink as much purified water as you can

eat as much seafood as you can .. its good fat and has protein for building muscle and is quite filling ..

thats it

You only need to do two things:

Stop eating fatty foods, starches and sugars.

And raise your heart-rate significantly, and hold it up there for at least 20 minutes, twice a day.

I go to the gym all the time and need to tell you that I have never thought a bad thought about an overweight person who was giving exercise a serious effort. I give advise when asked, will go out of my way to help them, and will happily show them new exercises.

I wouldn't exercise too much at home because it is hard to maintain home routines. It makes it more of an "event" to go to the gym. If you do want to exercise at home:

30 minutes on the exercise bike. Change the resistance alot, go way up for about 30 seconds and do a sprint, drop down and let your heart catch up for 1 minute - 1 min 30 seconds, then repeat the process.

Do a solid number of pushups and situps (sorry I can't give a number, it's hard to say do XX pushups without knowing where you are now). A good start would be do 10 pushups, rest for 40 seconds and then do another 10.

After that, go on the stair stepper for 10 minutes.

Repeat as often as you can. Good luck.

Take pills, lots and lots of pills. But really, my friend lost over 40lbs from just doing a cadio workout around 3-4 times a week for 30 minutes or so. He kinda hit a plateau for a little while, but has been varying the distance/speed and is still losing weight. For him, improving his diet and doing just cardio seems to be fine so far.

Oh and he pushes himself when jogging/biking/etc, meaning it isn't a relaxed jog, which keeps his heartrate up. I would recommended getting a music player as well... that helps me immensely when it comes to exercise, kinda keeps you from thinking about how tired you are. I found I would stop before I was really "done", just cause I was thinking about how tired I was.

The devices you've got will work well, just make sure you're using them regularly. Sit ups, push ups and if you've got stairs at home, excellent (run up and down them often).
Green tea is good, but drink some peppermint tea along with it, that'll help the bowels, you might have a healthy diet now, but if you've got unhealthy, inactive or slow working bowels then you won't be getting rid of all the waste you need to get rid of.
Like someone said, no one would look badly on you for trying to lose weight and get in shape, sure you might have idiots that'll snigger, but the word "idiots" says all you need to know about them.
You said no gym, but maybe you'd consider a martial arts class? Those train every part of your body and get you into shape fast if you put the work in. If you go to a good one, you'll be with people who will respect you for being there and putting the work in, not with people who would laugh at you or be rude.

not only do u need to eat healthy... but eat less, also cut back on protein unless you do explosive exercises (bench press, military press, squats, etc.) my advice to you is this: eat a normal size breakfast every day with whole milk... the whole milk will keep you satisfied so that you will eat less throughout the day, when ever you get the munchies, down a bottle of water, you'll get that squishy crappy feeling from drinking too much water but don't worry you'll know your doing better when your poop gets alot softer (and oersonally i'd drop the green tea thing, but i've got no real reson for it i just think its added substance your putting in your body. do a lot of running, maybe jogging, definitely not walking, a bunch of crunches (min of 100 a day in 25 at a time intervals) and shoot for 60 pushups a day at 15 at a time intervals

try this out for a while and look for results. the main point of the working out is not only to burn calories, but also to increase your metabolism, you'll be doing nearly a full body work out if you do all three every day (running, crunches, pushups)

So remember, eat less food, drink more water (definitely not gatorade or flavored water, real H20), do more workouts
