What's a good exercise plan for someone just starting and is 340 pounds?

We have a fitness center in our apartment complex. it has a treadmill, fitness bike, and free weights with a flat bench. I am looking to exercise to get in shape and lose some weight, but I don't want to overdo it. My wife says 2 times a week for 30 minutes is a good start, but I have also heard 20 minutes a day every day is better. Please advise, thanks.

you should actually try for 30 min a day, mix it up with walking on an incline on the treadmill and, some fast walking non incline,do about 10 min of incline at a speed you can handle and 10 minutes fast walking straight incline. Spend the other ten minutes lifting weights. You need to be slightly outside your comfort zone on the treadmill, you should not be able to hold a conversation when you are working out. If you can you need to push harder. Don't be discouraged if the scale says you weigh more some where in the process you are going to be gaining muscle as well, so you really need to go by your waist size, measure it and keep track of it. I would say work out 5 days a week and rest 2. You are at an obese weight so you need to work out more to get it off as fast as you can. Good luck! And watch your calories 80% is diet, it won't do youo much good if you are still eating crap.

I have a friend around your size. I am trying to lose weight too. This is my plan and so far its working... its really easy.

Do the two-step (the dance that you move your feet back and forth) for 15 min. Do this once a day... start every other day.

Go for a walk, it doesnt have to be fast just go for at least 15 min.... do this every day if possible, but at least every other day.

Make all snacks veggies and fruit (eat away!) and try to cut your normal dinner portion in half.

I have lost 3 pounds in a week since starting this. Good LUck!!

Try this.
Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, walk 45 minutes at speed of 2.5 on the treadmill. Use the free weights to do shoulder presses. 3 sets. Do 25 crunches. Stretch to cool down.

Thursdays and Fridays. Walk 1 hour at a speed of 3.0. Try to do up to 20 push-ups, half or full style.

Saturdays. Walk 90 minutes outside.

Sunday. Rest. stretch.

I'm 300 pounds and I just started walking a half hour on the tredmill and swim laps for another half hour. I do it every other day but may start doing it everyday. The best thing is to start small and not over do it. If you start to ach or get sick you should stop. Seeing a doctor would help in finding a good plan too.

Well, first of all, you should start looking at what you eat. Try eating more fruits and less sugary things. Then with the fitness, i suggest that you would do cardio for like 1 hr every day so that you can burn calories. Hope i helped.

WELL I THINK U SHOULD DO THE 20 MINUTES EVERYDAY EXERCISE AND DRINK LOTS OF WATER U KNOW YOU LOOSE ALOT OF WAIT DRINKING WATER AND GRENN TEA ..........
WATER= 8 CUPS A DAY (ICE COLD)WHEN YOU WAKE UP THE FIRST THING YOU SHOULD DO IS DRINK A CUP OF ICE COLD WATER....
GREEN TEA= 6 CUPS A DAY

WITH THIS YOULL LOOSE WEIGTH FOR SURE...

PS. THATS WHAT IM DOING TO LOOSE WEIGTH.....WATER,GREEN TEA,AND A 1 HOUR RUN OR A WALK BUT IT SHOULD BE A NON-STOP FOR SURE...

=P

Shorter workouts but more often is probably best. Sometimes long workouts are just too tough mentally and by the time you get to the end you're just half *** in it anyway.

About 20 to 30 minutes a day lifting weights and doing exercises. Just don't take no long breaks during that 20 or 30 minutes. Now if you just want to build muscles. Do your weight training every other day.

start off doing 20 minutes, then the second week progress to 30 minutes and start using the free weights, then the third week increase the cardio by 5 minutes and add more time on the free weights.

Well, exercising in your free time is always good. You should get wii fit for the wii. It's fun and gives you excercise. Dieting too much is bad so try eating a little less for dinner.

walking laps in a good sized pool that does not have a deep end.--you can do it!!

Start with a trip to the doctor.
