Does anyone exercise in their 3rd trimester?


Do you run on the treadmill or using that bike machine at the gym? Is it safe to run on or walk fast on a treadmill in the 3rd trimester?

How much time do you suggest walking per day?

My doctor has suggested 30 min cardio 3-5x per week. Sometimes I do 15, then weights, then cardio again as I get tired easily (32 weeks). As long as you haven't experienced any complications, there is no reason you cannot continue to work out up to delivery. As far as running, I was told it won't hurt the baby, but can be really hard on your pelvic floor muscles, especially as the baby gets heavier, which can lead to problems like incontinence. Biking on the stationary bike is fine, as is fast walking on the treadmill. I also like the cross trainer machines - no pounding on the joints (even less than walking) but more muscle groups involved. Just be prepared for strange looks at the gym once your belly is really out there. I didn't realize until a week ago that the over 50 crowd were all told to basically sit still and knit while pregnant, so they are often alarmed to see women working out in pregnancy. So are the husbands of wives who used pregnancy as an excuse to be inactive, eat and gain too much. Good luck - and here's to smooth deliveries because mom is in shape!

It is safe to walk fast but not run during pregnancy is what i was told. I unfortunatly can't do much because everytime i go to even take a 5 minute walk the contractions start up and with a history of early delivery the Dr doesn't want that happening. It is safe though to do speed walking or regular walking on the treadmill.

Exercise is great for you!! Not running, but definitely walking. I am in my fortieth week and I still walk all day long at work (in high heels) Walking is supposed to be very beneficial for labor time. Also try swimming.. and do your kegels... Everytime I pee, I practice stopping and starting my urine midflow just to exercise the muscles down there. (supposedly helps when it comes time to push) Good luck and Happy Walking :)

not when you are pregnant ure baby will look like a runt if you work off your baby bump (pratically impossibly) you want your baby healthy so dont run wait till him/her is born wait about a year or so and start walking when the baby is mature and wont i dont know cry or need absolutely every minute filled with attention you know

My sister in law played racquetball until almost her due date .
The kids were uber healthy and had none of those couch potato behaviors .

I just walk a mile in the park every day. Running isn't good though.
