I'm a senior and thinking about a 3 wheel bike for exercise. I don't want to fall. Good or bad idea?

May I suggest that you try it out before you buy it. Not in the store, but out on the road.

My mother-in-law had one and you had to have massive amounts of leg strength to pedal it. But it was easy in the store on the tile floor.

Any excise is good. Walking and just generally staying busy outside is my elixir for good health. I'm a ring tail tooter and I don't let any grass grow under my feet. Being able to blow hot air used to be a problem. Used to, I said. You might check with a local rehab hospital and get their ideas regarding your limitations and related issues. Local AARP chapters also have exercise programs that you might enjoy and meet some folks that share your lifestyle.

I think that is a very good ideal. Try to get one with a basket on it so as you can carry stuff in it as well, like some thing to drink should you get thirsty.

My dad has one that is stationary. This way he can ride it as long as he wants to and when he gets tried he gets off right where he got on it at, as it is stationary. You can set them to pedal ease to hard, you know how far you have "gone" on it as it will register the miles and how fast you are going.

It's a wonderful idea ,as long as you have good balance and are used to some form of stretching or exercise already . If you aren't in good health you should consult with your family doc first for suggestions on the best way to get started . Then begin in low traffic ( bike & pedestrian as well ) areas . Be sure not to ride alone . Happy trails !

I say good idea. I knew a neighbor lady that had one. She also rode it to the grocery store. That might not be a bad idea either with gas prices! Just don't try to go up or down steep hills. I've thought about bike riding later after my surgery recovery, but I'm so paranoid right now that I will fall again. My balance isn't good. The three wheel is a good idea I think.

A lot of seniors have them in our area. They do require a bit of practice. You can't make sharp corners or they could tip. Here in Florida the land is very flat. If you have hills where you live, that could create a problem. But the people I know with them, love them.

Right after my mom got her 3-wheeler, the back wheel got caught in a pothole while she was turning the corner. It took all the skin off her heel and ankle. For that reason, I don't like them.

Do you mean an adult tricycle? Those can't tilt. Lots of older people (in their 70s and 80s) ride those reclining bikes in my town; I think it must be easier on the back and they have three wheels.

Good if you have a nice area to ride in.Make sure to watch for the autos, they are not always driven by good drivers. My daughter got her one. They handle well now,not hard to turn like long ago....

We have several seniors in our mobile home community who have them and use them everyday. Good Idea.

Good idea. We have a lot of older people in the south during the winter (snowbirds) & almost all of them ride them.

Why don't you just try walking and each day walk a little further and may be a little faster.

I use a horse. But I recon after lookin at a contraption like that it might be good.

That's a very good question, I can't walk without falling but that bicycle I might be able to do. I'll be watching your answers.

It's a great idea. If the gas prices keep going up-----I will join you.
