If you saw a guy riding a bike to work, would you assume he's broke, getting exercise, or Earth friendly?

That's like so wrong to assume people are broke if they ride a bike to work. I do it because it's faster than driving, wakes me up in the morning, gives me exercise, and it is pleasant.

Getting exercise and earth-friendly. In college, a lot of my PROFESSORS rode bikes to work each day. They were making $100,000 plus, so don't tell me they were broke. lol

Let's see here... Pretty much all the other answers fit what I'm gonna say but I'm just going to recap and give a little bit more info.

Yes... you could judge a guy by his appearance if he's riding a bike to work due to lack of money... but I wouldn't! So what if he's wearing a muscle shirt, torn jeans, sneakers... He could be changing his clothes when he arrives to work....

Exercise: Typically, you would know if the person is using a bike for exercise. The ones that are devoted to getting their exercise on a bike 95% of the time have the proper biking gear (i.e. top notch helmet, pads "arm/knee", biking shoes or sneakers, water bottle, and so forth)...

Earth friendly: Well you can't really tell. People that I know that ride bikes to places don't ride it because of the Earth (NOT that they don't care about the earth).

However, my friend got a DUI recently and lost driving privilages so now he has to ride a bike to and from work so that is another reason why people could ride their bike... no license or can't drive... Not everyone in this world can drive!

Or a person could be riding a bike for all these reasons!

as there is no way for a bike to get from where I live to where I work, I would assume the person is drunk and riding in the middle of a motor vehicle only bridge with NO walkways or bike access.

Go figure - Washington DC - new bridge - WW bridge - no foot access, no bike access. our taxes at work

My company pays our employees 75 dollars a month to bike to work or to take the train. I would like to think he cared about the environment. One of my co-workers rides his bike to work for exercise!!!! If your bike looks nice and your helmet too than I would probably think the guy wasn't broke.

For certain people, I wouldn't say they're doing it to be "earth friendly". However, for many people who live in a descent distance from their work, they're doing themselves a favor. They're not only getting a good work out (for everyone 1 mile you burn about 30 calories), but with gas prices these days, they're probably saving a lot!

If they work with me, unless they are the CEO, I already know that they're a broke @ss no matter how they get to work. If I see them as I am driving to work, I assume nothing except that they will stay to the right as I whip pass them.

it usually depends on the persons appearance...if he is younger..i usually think he is just getting some exercise..if he is older i usually feel bad because i think he doesnt have a car.

And by older i mean like 40+

It depends on how the biker is dressed. The size of his bike, gear, and appearance will be the deciding factor.

Bottom line, I will hope he is a Friend of the Earth.

If his shoes are held together with duct tape, he's wearing a dirty wifebeater and he's hauling around a garbage bag full of aluminum cans, I would assume he's my neighbor.

Around here, no one bikes to work. It's too hilly, rurual, and spread out. So I would actually assume he's had his license revoked.

In my area, I would assume he isn't going to work. I would assume he stole a bicycle and wants to sell it for $15 for some crack.

I wouldnt assume anything. I'd mind my own business because I know that everyone's situation is different.

if he lived near me, my guess would be Mexican. xDD jk jk!
eh....broke... (if you knew where i lived you might understand xD)
srsly, no one around here would ride a bike to work unless cars went extinct....

earth friendly and maybe excersize

Earth friendly...

yeah where i live the broke a$$ muthers ride bikes...as they smoke their camels......

I'd assume that he doesn't have the money to fill his car with gas!

his car is in impound due to his third DUI (driving under the influence).
