Will an exercise bike really help with losing weight??


I haven't been doing anything to really lose weight, and I need to start trying. My mom is giving me her exercise bike. Does it really help with losing weight? How long should I do it for and how often? I want to lose 10 lbs. That's my goal. Any advice would be appreciated!!!!

Any exercise, especially cardio like the bike, will help you lose weight. You should do 30 minutes+ of cardio per day, and you can do intervals (faster speed, then slower, faster, etc.) to get faster results. Good luck :)

Yes, the stationary bike is great cardiovascular exercise. In fact, any exercise that keeps your heart rate elevated for at least 15 minutes is considered aerobic--and aerobic activity is the type of workout most often associated with weight loss.

So, how long should you do it? It sounds like you are just starting your exercise program, so for the first few weeks, do what you can. Try a lower intensity workout while you build up the length of your exercise. Focus on being consistent. Slowly build yourself up to 20-40 minutes of continuous aerobic activity.

One more thing--the exercise bike is good. But try to select 2 or 3 different types of exercise. That way, you have options. Also, try to find a friend to exercise with--a support system.
