What are the benfits (if any) of cycling backwards on an exercise bike? |
I went to a gym with my friend a few weeks ago and i noticed some of the women were cycling backwards....do they burn weight faster? Or are they too lazy to pedal the right way? no it just cuts down on the boredom, you can also pedal backwards as part of a cool down or if you start to get shin pain knee pain etc. Any movement in the gym is good movement if you are straining. You burn calories pedaling backwards or forwards. you use different muscles when you're legs get tired, it works out the other muscles and gives your tired ones a break The main benefit is that you see where you have been, rather than where you are going... It keeps the element of surprise alive and well... :-) Life Peddling backwards uses the hamstrings more. Peddling forward uses the quads more, although by flexing the feet more or less it's possible to adjust where the effort is most intense. None, No really. I ride anywhere from 8K to 10K a year and have raced all over the world. so they were either misinformed or bored. There is no benefit. If one pedals as if they were drawing circles both the quads and hamstrings will be used. and you'll go much faster. |
