Which is better? running 4.7km in 30 minutes or cycling on an exercise bike for 8.4km in 20 minutes? Generally, both do well for weight loss. You're mixing 3 separate things though. 1.Exercise type 2.Time or length of exercise 3.Effort during exercise Also, which is better for what? Leg strength, cardio or weight loss? Also, exercise bikes are not as good as real riding. Your 2 scenarios are both lacking, effort and time. Since you don't mention what type of effort and resistance you're using on the bike your info completely unknown. The running is at quite a slow pace too. You don't mention your weight or conditioning either. These could be hard efforts for you or very easy. Since so much in unknown, I'll simple say the standard accepted general exercise response: Exercise 3 - 4 times a week for 30 minutes or more at medium hard efforts. ~Cycling~ The most recently proved method for weight loss is - 12 seconds fast and 8 seconds slow - 12 seconds fast and 8 seconds slow - for 20 minutes - this method burns the most fat! Running is generally the better calorie eater, more than cycling I've found. It depends what you're aiming for eg. all over fitness or just ttrying to tone your legs etc. (which by the way, cycling is great at doing) It's best to go by your heart rate and use a combination of exercises -- i.e. both. Cycling an exercise bike for 8.4km in 20 minutes. |
