I'm thinking about getting a bike to add variety to my exercise routine, what should i look for in a good bike

i can't spend alot of money, and i would also like to know how long i would have to ride the bike to burn at least 900 calories

If you are doing on road cycling then you need skinny tires, off road/mountain thicker tires are better. For on road you do not need the tires to be extremely textured just the regular grooves. Lightness is really good. If the bike it too heavy then it's that much more work to get up hills. Don't pay attention to the seats, because you can always buy a seperate seat and switch them out. get one with quick release levers for changing out the seats it makes it that much easier for adjusting the seat. As for burning 900 calories, I can't really say, but my dad rides 15 miles every weekend. It really depends on the amount of hills and how hard you're making it for yourself, ie: are you on the granny gear going up hills or are you on a medium gear, are you still pedeling down hills or are you coasting? I'd say if you do about 5-10 miles a day it'll help tone your calve muscles and you'll burn a pretty good amount of calories. If you have more questions about bikes, the salesperson of wherever you go will more than likely help you. I suggest R.E.I. (not sure if that's just a Texas store or not), Buck's bikes (again not sure about if it's a chain), or specialty stores, not all of them are going to be expensive like people usually think, but to get a good bike I'd be prepared to spend a couple hundred and to get a really good bike, closer to the $500-$1000 range Source(s): My dad cycles a lot and a couple of years ago our family went on a trip cycling through Ireland
